Recovery at Lake Perris California 7-18-07: We were called about a boat that went down 7-11-07 in lake Perris in 60+ feet of water. The owner meet us on 7-14-07 at the Lake 2 hours into the search. We had GPS numbers provided by the Ranger whom took the report. They had been in the water for about 5 to 10 minutes and by the time the ranger arrived it had been 20 minutes. The floating debris was where the coordinates were taken. We search from 7:30am to after 2:30pm. The owner called it, tired of the search, and wanting to "not put anymore time or money into it"! We decided to come back on 7-18-07 for one more try sense the owner signed over the boat and trailer to us.
We hit the lake early at 7:30am and found it by 10:30am allowing for wind and drift and knowing the lake. We got a sonar hit on the upright target and spent 20 minutes making sure before dropping divers to 63ft of 3ft visibility water. We ran a sweeping search from the anchor line, that was slipping and found it in 5 minutes.
We floated and towed the boat back to the ramp and on the trailer by 2:30pm. Mission accomplished. Note: The previous owners bought it on Saturday and went to the lake on Sunday. They asked the seller if "The Plug was in the boat?" It was in the drink holder!
